- What exactly is it that you are doing here?
- We try to help our Guests find a local business that can provide them with what they need in the local area. This is free for our Guests (who are searching for goods and services) and there is a small fee for our dedicated Hosts (who advertise their goods and services) to put information on our site. Posting information about Yard Sales is free for both the Host and the Guest. When a guest finds the goods or services they are looking for we provide contact information for that Host and even a map to help you get there. Our Mission Statement is also good to read.
- How does this all work?
- Once you read (and agree) our user agreements you enter your zip code and tell us how far you are willing to travel. After that you can search for Hosts in your search area that offer what you are looking for.
- What is a Host?
- A Host is a business or person that (typically) pays to post goods and services on to our web site.
- What is a Guest?
- A guest is anyone that uses this web site to look for goods or services. There is never any charge for being a guest on our site. We will never ask for your name, email address, phone number or credit card number.
- Do you guarantee the goods or services that your Hosts provide?
- No, if you choose to work with a Host it is entirely at your own risk. We cannot and will never attempt to endorse any Host. There are just too many of them for us to act as an authority. Please be safe and research any Host you plan on doing business with.
- Can I look for a date or post a political message or opinion?
- No, we are neither a BLOG nor a dating site. We focus on consumers looking for retailers and service providers. We review the posts of all new Hosts until we feel they are well established and "with the program". If we do not like what we see for any reason then we turn off that posting. If we find ourselves rejecting too many postings for a host then we turn off that host.
- What if I disagree with your decision to turn off a posting or a Host?
- You can contact us and we will reconsider our decision. However we are not the government and as such are not in the least bit obligated to let anyone post anything. Freedom of speech does not apply to this site and we are the final word. If you do not agree to this concept then you do not have permission to use any of our sites.
- Does your site use cookies?
- Yes, we do use cookies to help us guide you along. But please do not worry about our cookies. We do not store any information about you or your system and we don't even store what you searched for. We simply use them to help us coordinate what we want to show you. There are ways for us to avoid the use of cookies, however using cookies actually helps protect your privacy. You can clear what little data we have collected by clicking here.
- What do your cookies track?
- We use them to specifically track your ZIP Code and how far you wish to travel. We track the last category of goods and services you are looking for and the last search text you keyed into our system.
- Why don't you use driving distances?
- We use ZIP Codes to calculate our distances so everything (by default) is calculated based on the center (or centroid) of the ZIP Code. Basically all distances are "how the crow flies" and not driving distances. So we assume you live at the center of your ZIP Code region. If you want to be more precise then you can enter your exact latitude and longitude from the Tools page.
- Why do you use ZIP Codes?
- It's just a simple way of finding your proximity. When you enter a ZIP Code we figure out the longitude and latitude of that ZIP Code. Then we assume that you are interested in Hosts that are located within ZIP Codes that are close (within your chosen distance) to the ZIP Code you specified. This can mean that some Hosts are outside of the distance that you wish to drive. We are constantly working towards making this process more exacting. If you wish to be as precise as possible then you can enter your exact latitude and longitude from the Tools page.
- Tell me more about Yard Sales.
- We allow people to post information about a yard sale they are hosting. We do this for free as an incentive for people to visit our site. We allow a host to specify what days and hours they will have their yard sale and the kinds of goods they will have. A posting can be made up to 7 days in advance and guests will be shown this posting on the days that the yard sale is active.
- I am not receiving your verification email when I sign up to host a Yard or Garage Sale. How can I fix this?
- The most likely cause of this is due to your email system thinking our email system is sending you SPAM. We recommend that you send an email to yshosting@golocalfirst.com and add that same email address to your email systems address book. After 6 hours of not acknowledging your Yard or Garage Sale event our system will delete your pending request and then you can try again.
